The 458th Airlift Squadron hosts 7 C-21 aircraft inside a hangar at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois on Feb. 9, 2019. This year, the 458th AS will become America's sole C-21 squadron after 35 years of C-21 operations. A $38 million avionics upgrade for the fleet is underway and a consolidation effort is moving four aircraft from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, to join Scott’s 10 C-21s by late summer, bringing the total of 14 aircraft assigned here.

The 458th AS celebrates 35 years of C-21 operations at Scott AFB in 2019. The C-21A is a twin turbofan-engine aircraft used for cargo and passenger airlift. The aircraft is the military version of the Learjet 35A business jet. In addition to providing cargo and passenger airlift, the aircraft is also capable of transporting one litter or five ambulatory patients during aeromedical evacuations.
