The Legal Office is located on the top floor of the 375th Air Mobility Wing Headquarters Building, Bldg. P-3. It's the first large building on the left after turning at the 3-way stop sign at the Scott Field Historical Gate.

Legal Assistance

The legal office can provide advice to qualifying members* on a wide array of legal issues, including:
 

  • Landlord-Tenant
  • Consumer/Financial Affairs
  • Family Law, to include divorce, child custody and adoption
  • Immigration

The Air Force Legal Assistance Website is dedicated to enabling your access to legal services and information. Educational resources are available on common legal issues. The site is also designed to expedite your access to services prior to visiting the office. You should use the website to draft worksheets for powers of attorney, advanced healthcare directives, and wills.


*To qualify for Legal Assistance you must have a valid military identification card and fall into one of the following categories:
 

  • Active Duty Military Members and their dependents
  • Reserve and Guard Members who are on active duty and their dependents
  • Retired military members and their dependents. You must be receiving retirement pay to be eligible for service.

 

Claims

The Legal Office processes claims both for and against the Air Force arising out of incidents occurring at Scott Air Force Base and at locations under its responsibility.

For Household Goods Claims
Please contact the carrier first. If you do not receive prompt service, please contact the Claims Service Center through their website.

For All Other Claims

Military Justice

The legal office provides advice on a full range of disciplinary matters to the wing commander, subordinate units and partner commands. We enable commanders to uphold good order and discipline through the efficient and equitable administration of military justice. The Military Justice Division is also responsible for processing all courts-martial, Articles 15s, and administrative disciplinary matters.

Victim Assistance

The Victim and Witness Assistance Program, is a Commander-directed program that is supported by the Staff Judge Advocate Office. The VWAP provides guidance for the treatment of victims and witnesses of crime under the UCMJ. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, the Program ensures that victims and witnesses receive the information and assistance they deserve.

Other Base Legal Services

Area Defense Counsel

Are you under investigation or subject to adverse action?

The Area Defense Counsel provides confidential, independent legal representation for service members who are facing adverse administrative actions or are suspected of committing an offense under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The Area Defense Counsel falls outside the chain of command for the wing, and therefore retains independence in the representation of service members.

Special Victims' Counsel


Special Victims Counsel are experienced, independent judge advocates who provide confidential legal advice to victims of sexual assault. They serve both restricted and unrestricted reporters, help victims understand their legal rights, and explain how the legal process works for processing sex assault claims.

The Special Victims Counsel falls outside the chain of command for the wing, and therefore retains independence in the representation of victims.

Powers of Attorney: Powers of Attorney are available Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. The office is closed on Thursdays for training.

Notaries: Notaries are available Monday thru Wednesday and Friday from 0900-1130 and 1230-1500.  Appointments are preferred. The office is closed on Thursdays for training.
