Legal Assistance

Walk in hours:
For powers of attorney and notary services, please visit our office on the top floor of Building P-3. Our walk-in hours are Monday – Wednesday 0900-1200 and Friday 1200-1500. We are closed Thursdays for training.
 
Legal Assistance Appointments with an Attorney:
For Legal Assistance, an appointment is preferred. Please schedule an appointment at https://webmail.apps.mil/book/ScottAFBLegal@bookings.af.mil/ or call 618-256-5017 for more information. Do not use the online service to book an appointment for a will or estate planning. Please follow the below process for scheduling a will appointment.
 
The Air Force Legal Assistance Website (link to: https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil/lass/lass.html)  is dedicated to enabling your access to legal services and information. Educational resources are available on common legal issues.
 

Wills and Estate Planning:

Wills and Estate Planning Appointments are available on Wednesday mornings and as needed for deployers. An appointment is required for these appointments. These appointments are required for Wills, Healthcare Directives, Healthcare Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills. Deployers receive priority for will drafting.
 
Wills are only scheduled for the current month and by phone call starting on the first of each month during business hours. After we reach capacity of will planning appointments we will stop taking appointments for that month.
 
To schedule an appointment:
 
First. Call the legal office (618-256-5017) during the month you would like a will appointment. If we are full for that month, you will have to call again the next month.
 
Second. After you are confirmed for an appointment. You will be directed to fill out a will worksheet. Please fill out this worksheet COMPLETELY and ensure proper time is spend on the spellings of names and all information provided is final and accurate. The worksheet is available here: https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil/lass/lass.html
 
Third. Send the code the will worksheet provides you to our email: 375amw.ja-legaloffice@us.af.mil This information will be used by our attorneys to draft your documents and advise you about your will during your appointment.

Claims

The Legal Office processes claims both for and against the Air Force arising out of incidents occurring at Scott Air Force Base and at locations under its responsibility.

For Household Goods Claims
Please contact the carrier first. If you do not receive prompt service, please contact the Claims Service Center through their website.

For All Other Claims
Please contact the legal office at 618-256-5017.

Military Justice

The legal office provides advice on a full range of disciplinary matters to the wing commander, subordinate units and partner commands. We enable commanders to uphold good order and discipline through the efficient and equitable administration of military justice. The Military Justice Division is also responsible for processing all courts-martial, Articles 15s, and administrative disciplinary matters.

Victim Assistance

The Victim and Witness Assistance Program, is a Commander-directed program that is supported by the Staff Judge Advocate Office. The VWAP provides guidance for the treatment of victims and witnesses of crime under the UCMJ. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, the Program ensures that victims and witnesses receive the information and assistance they deserve.

Other Base Legal Services

Area Defense Counsel

Are you under investigation or subject to adverse action?

The Area Defense Counsel provides confidential, independent legal representation for service members who are facing adverse administrative actions or are suspected of committing an offense under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The Area Defense Counsel falls outside the chain of command for the wing, and therefore retains independence in the representation of service members.

Special Victims' Counsel

Special Victims Counsel are experienced, independent judge advocates who provide confidential legal advice to victims of sexual assault. They serve both restricted and unrestricted reporters, help victims understand their legal rights, and explain how the legal process works for processing sex assault claims.

The Special Victims Counsel falls outside the chain of command for the wing, and therefore retains independence in the representation of victims.
