Scott cadets excel and earn awards at Wing Encampment

8/17/2011 - Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- Eight cadets from the Scott Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, attended the 2011 Illinois Wing Summer Encampment at the Illinois National Guard base, Camp Lincoln, in Springfield, Ill., July 30 through Aug. 6.

Several performed key leadership roles at the encampment, and two cadets brought home awards. Cadet Capt. Dennis McFadden held the Cadet Deputy Commander position, while Cadet 2nd Lts. Jessica Bradley and John Gulick commanded Alpha and Bravo flights, respectively. Cadet Senior Airman Logan Kelly and Cadet Airman Brandon Easley were guidon bearers for two of the eight flights.

Bravo flight, led by Gulick, received four of the week's daily Honor Flight recognitions. Under Gulick's leadership, Bravo was awarded Honor Flight of the Encampment. Gulick was also presented the Cadet Staff Honor Cadet award during the graduation ceremony.

Cadet Airman Eric Wolfe Jr. received the Charlie Flight Honor Cadet award for his performance and leadership during the week.

Other cadets attending were Cadet Airman Bryce Whisler and Cadet Airman Alan Tiemann.

Attendance of a summer encampment is mandatory for progression into the cadet officer ranks. Cadets received instruction by CAP and National Guard personnel, and an orientation flight on a CH-47 Chinook helicopter.
