4/27/2011 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Scott Air Force Base will conduct a base-wide clean up May 6-7 in support of Scott Pride. The 375th Mission Support Group is asking everyone to pitch in and do their part to help "Showcase" the beauty of the installation.

The occupants of each facility are asked to clean the areas around their premises to include trimming bushes, weeding, sweeping sidewalks, emptying trash bins, and picking up litter and mulching where necessary. Limited supplies are available at the Self-Help Store, Bldg. 57, on a first-come, first-served basis. Trash bags and work gloves are readily available for purchase with the GPC at Base Supply, Bldg. 4001, or participants can bring their own supplies.

If large debris pick-ups are anticipated, such as tree limbs or concrete blocks, call 256-2202 before the clean up to schedule pick up. Please ensure all debris is easily accessible for a truck and trailer. Keep in mind that government equipment, to include furniture and appliances, may not be placed in dumpsters or debris piles. These items should be disposed of through proper channels such as DRMO or Base Supply.

The base recycling collection area will also be open to accept the following items: paper (white, colored, newspaper, envelopes, and books), plastic (No. 1 through No.7), aluminum cans, scrap metal, and wooden pallets. At this time, glass is not being accepted. However, light bulbs from government facilities can be taken to Bldg. 3306 for proper disposal. Please be advised that light bulbs must be properly packaged and sealed prior to turn-in. Questions regarding recyclable items may be addressed by calling 256-6431.

Hazardous waste should not be placed in the trash or dumpsters. For additional information about proper disposal of these items, call 256-2184 or 530-6557. According to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, typical household hazardous waste, such as old solvents, paints, pesticides, fertilizer, poisons, must be disposed of properly off-base or placed in the garbage in sealed containers. More information about collection sites can be found on the Illinois EPA website at www.epa.state.il.us.

Facility managers and occupants are responsible for keeping the areas within 50 feet of their facilities free from litter in accordance with Scott AFB pamphlet 32-1001, Facility Manager's Handbook.

On May 7 the Scott Pride will shift from the main base areas to our housing areas. Look for information from Hunt Management in their newsletters, website, and the Scott Base Bulletin on clean-up events.

With your help, Team Scott can help "Showcase" our pride in our places of work, and for some, our homes.

For more information, call CE Customer Service at 256-2202.
