SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE HONOR GUARD

Mission

The Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard, part of the 375th Air Mobility Wing, provides military funeral honors for all active duty members, retirees, and veterans who have served honorably in the Army Air Corps, Army Air Forces, Air Force and Space Force. The Honor Guard also provides "Colors" support for promotions, retirements, change-of-commands, recognition ceremonies, and other base/civic activities. The ultimate goal of the Honor Guard is "To Honor With Dignity".

Funeral Support

Air Force Instruction 34-501, Mortuary Affairs mandates a team of 20 members for active duty funerals and teams of 2 members for retiree and veteran funerals. For the honor guard to support a funeral, please submit an Honors Request Form with all pertinent information along with supporting documentation showing honorable service, which includes a copy of the deceased member's most recent DD214 or Certificate of Release or Discharge from military service. If a DD214 is not submitted, honors cannot be performed. In cases where a DD214 is not available, contact the Saint Louis National Archives at 314-801-0800 to obtain a Certificate of Military Service (please note, this process can take up to a week to fulfill).

To schedule funeral honors, Honors Request Forms and DD214s should be e-mailed 375fss.honorguard@us.af.mil or faxed to (618) 256-7462. Click here for a copy of the request form.  All submitted documents will be verified and confirmed via phone. To guarantee support, please provide documentation no later than 48 hours prior to the requested honors time. To request a flag from the VA, please print the flag request form found here (add flag request form) and take it to your local USPS post office along with required supporting documentation.

Ceremonial Support

The Honor Guard supports promotions and retirements for Airman in the grade of Chief Master Sergeant for enlisted, Colonel or higher for officers and GS-15 or higher for civilians. On-base ceremonies, such as Quarterly/Annual Awards, Airmen Leadership School /Community College of the Air Force graduations, the Air Force Ball, and other Wing-level programs are supported. Other local and off-base events are only supported with approval of the base Public Affairs office.

To schedule "Colors" events, a Colors Request Form should be e-mailed to 375fss.honorguard@us.af.mil or faxed to (618) 256-7462. Click here for a copy of the request form.

Funeral honors take precedence over all other events. Due to the unpredictable nature of the Honor Guard mission, support for other events cannot be guaranteed at any time. If Scott AFB Honor Guard is unable to provide support, requestors may seek former honor guard members from within their units and send them to us to be trained for the event. Necessary equipment to support the event may be borrowed.

Geographic Area

The Honor Guard supports a 110,000 square mile region, comprised of the entire state of Illinois and parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
