  • Medal of Honor recipient Hiroshi Miyamura shared his experiences as a Korean War veteran and Prisoner of War with members of Team Scott May 17 as part of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month celebrations. He endured more than two years in a North Korean POW camp where he was tortured, starved and subjected to constant brain washing attempts. His capture came only after the Army Corporal fought off an onslaught of enemy soldiers who attacked April 24-25, 1951. Though outnumbered, he fought for hours—hand-to-hand at times, killing enemy soldiers throughout the attack with his bayonet and from two machine gun positions that he fought to get to. He tended to the wounded and directed the evacuation of his platoon. The last his men saw of him, Cpl. Miyamura was manning a 30-caliber machine gun—firing until his ammunition was gone.
