4/13/2011 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill.  -- The 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing recently held a strategy planning session at Scott Air Force Base to set the future direction for the unit.

The strategy session's goal was to set the future direction for the unit, align all unit projects into one focused view, and minimize projects that had low value to the unit's success.

The two day event began with a refinement of the unit's current mission statement and a new vision statement of "one call for all supply chain support" which the unit wants to achieve by 2014. Next, the team set forth to establish goals to achieve their vision.

The resulting three goals that were developed are broad in nature to accommodate growth, but specific enough for all to know what areas need to be improved upon to go from today's mission to tomorrow's vision.

Using the three goals, the team developed nine objectives they would like to work toward in 2011. These measurable objectives directly support each goal and afford the unit the capability to target specific areas of interest that are affecting the unit today while still pushing towards their vision.

Next, the team drove the objectives down to specific initiatives at the tactical level, for the year, to make each objective a reality. This was accomplished using projects that each section, group, and commanders would like to accomplish.

Using this list of 32 projects, each was evaluated based on a pre-described set of criteria to "measure" how much of a contribution each project would make to each objective. The outcome resulted in 15 projects that have a very close and dramatic impact to the objective while 17 were loosely tied to the objectives that the unit wanted to achieve for the year. The 15 close-tied projects will be worked in 2011 with the remaining 17 worked after the first 15 are accomplished.

The 635th SCOW assigned each project to the responsible sections to carry out in an effort to avoid duplication of effort, confusion on who needs to accomplish, as well as gather the subject matter experts to work the project.

The plan is now the focus for all members of the unit to contribute which that will achieve the vision of "one call for all supply chain support."
