Life guards watch over pool at Scott Air Force Base, Ill, July 1, 2014. The base currently has 20 lifeguards. All the lifeguards must be Red Cross certified in life guarding and CPR. Any lifeguard that is also certified in Water Safety Instruction is eligible to become a lead guard who are responsible for much of the day to day activity, conducting in-service training and re-certifying guards whose certifications have expired.
