The power of support

Maj. Michael Evon, Air Mobility Command, his wife Melissa and son Hayden, 6, walk the survivor’s lap together during Relay for Life June 17 at the O’Fallon Township High School. Major Evon is a survivor of Stage 3 Testicular cancer. He was diagnosed in November of 2009. “I know folks say after going through cancer they learn to appreciate things in life, which is true, but more important to me is that this experience has reaffirmed my belief in the good of people. Since my diagnosis, my family and I have been surrounded by family and friends who have been our little heroes in helping us get through the difficult times,” he said. Relay for life is an American Cancer Society fundraising event. This year more than 200 participants camped out for twelve hours in honor of the cause. (United States Air Force photo/ Staff Sgt.
