Florida air national guard evacuate 8 F-15's to Scott
The Florida Air National Guard, 125th Fighter Wing landed eight F-15 aircraft at Scott AFB, Ill., Aug. 25, 2011. The 125th FW located in Jacksonville, Fla., evacuated to Scott in preparation for hurricane Irene. The 125th mission is to provide air defense for the southeastern United States, from Charleston, S.C., to the southern tip of Florida and across the Florida panhandle. The Wing maintains and flies F-15 fighters at Jacksonville International Airport. Simultaneously, the Wing performs a continuous 24-hour alert mission at its detached site located at Homestead Air Reserve Station, standing ready to intercept unknown aircraft at any time.
