Tricks for turning sweet treats into healthy eats Published Oct. 14, 2015 By Scott AFB Health Promotion Scott AFB Health Promotion SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- -- The holidays are quickly approaching, and sometimes it's not easy trying to steer clear of all those delicious Halloween treats that you just can't get enough of! However, not all Halloween treats have to be bad for you. You can use your everyday fun and tasty meals or deserts and turn them into something more healthy and themed for the holiday. Here are a few fun and healthy treats for you and the family: · "Pigs in a blanket" can be turned into zombie fingers or mummy dogs! It's quick and fun snack for you and the kids to enjoy. · Spiced apple cider--take out the apple brandy and add a cinnamon stick and you have a witches' brew that is kid friendly and healthier for you. · Do you like to throw parties? How about making your famous chili with lean sirloin or ground turkey and call it "Monster Guts." · Don't forget the most important part of Halloween, the pumpkin! It might be a sweet and tasty treat but pumpkin has health benefits with its richness in vitamin A and fiber. Try making a pumpkin dip that everyone can enjoy or some oatmeal pumpkin spice muffins. Remember, even though the holidays are coming up, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the guilty pleasures without the guilt. You can eat sweets in moderation and use healthy alternatives to curb those cravings when they arrive.
