Scott is truly Joint Total Force

As home to U.S. Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, 18th Air Force, Air Force Communications Agency, Defense Systems Information Agency, Tanker Airlift Control Center, Mobility Air Force Logistics Support Center, Air National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserves' 932nd Airlift Wing and more than 50 other associate partners, Scott AFB is always a whirlwind of activity.

The typical fast pace began this week on Sunday morning by welcoming Col. Jay Flournoy to Scott as the 932 AW's new commander and continued on Monday with a visit by Mr. Paul Farnan, the military legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.

AMC's Phoenix Stripe conference also began on Monday bringing to Scott eighty bright non-commissioned officers and civilian equivalents to meet with AMC senior leaders and to learn about Air Force topics of interest like the AEF cycle.

At the core of all this daily activity is the 375th Airlift Wing. The 375 AW maintains the base's infrastructure, manages the day-to-day operations of the installation, provides community services like fire protection, and offers a plethora of family services activities for everyone to enjoy.

Being the host unit, the 375th AW plays a critical role in enabling all Scott's associate units to perform their missions. USTRANSCOM would not, for example, be able to track the movement of supplies without the communications support provided by the 375th Communications Group, and AMC senior leaders traveling via military airlift would find it difficult, if not impossible, to reach their destination without the efforts of the 375th Operations Group.

The 375th Medical Group also keeps all of Joint Total Force Scott on track for mission success by ensuring military personnel are medically fit to fight, and all Scott personnel benefit from the services provided by the 375th Director of Staff agencies like finance and the legal office.

Made up of the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron, 375th Security Forces Squadron, 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 375th Service Squadron, 375th Mission Support Squadron, and 375th Contracting Squadron, the 375th Mission Support Group is the super glue that truly enables mission accomplishment. No matter where you work or go on Scott, the 375 MSG has a hand in almost everything we touch.

Ultimate responsibility for all these moving pieces lies with the 375th AW leadership team. Sure, not everything should or does go through us because we have great leadership throughout the wing at all levels to address a myriad of opportunities and challenges. The real takeaway is this. In order to maintain good order and discipline, inputs pertaining to base operating support need to go through the wing first since we try to represent one voice from Scott to outside organizations regarding requirements, priorities, etc.

Mission accomplishment is dependent on precise and accurate communication. To help the wing help our joint total force partners achieve success, the use of the chain of command is imperative in directing issues of concern to the right party of responsibility.

For many years, the 375th AW has enjoyed a great working relationship with its joint total force partners. Solid communication is the key to keeping this relationship running smoothly.

Joint Total Force Scott, I welcome your comments and feedback about the support provided to you by the 375th AW.

Thanks for all JTF Scott personnel do to make the base a great place to work, live, and play.
