We're all in! Published Sept. 8, 2009 By Col. Gary Goldstone 375th Airlift Wing Commander Scott AFB, Ill. -- Team, it has been a demanding few weeks for us here with mobility exercises and numerous preparations for our upcoming air show. While many of us are doing our part to make these events successful, there are several key areas that must be corrected. This is not the appropriate forum to go into detail about what exactly needs to be fixed with our processes, but know that there are several areas that demand attention. That is why we will take tomorrow as an opportunity to redouble our efforts in support of our No. 1 priority of providing combat-ready Airmen to our combatant commanders. Our wing mission is to lift, to support and to send ... and it's the "send" portion of our work that requires a little more attention to detail, smoother processes and better awareness from all participants. I know that many of you who participate in these mobility exercises do an outstanding job. You are personally prepared, you adhere to the basics, you ensure you and your teammates have everything required and are able to perform the mission, yet as a whole we have some large rocks that are blocking our progress. These issues are not just for those who are "assigned" to participate in the Operational Readiness Inspections, but for all of us. We face a constant turnover of staffing and must fill in when our coworkers are deployed. However, if we all train like we fight and stabilize our processes, then we'll have the right checklists and the smooth processes that will help us execute the mission. Responding to major accidents or crises also requires quick and precise actions, and I would like to see more of that as we practice both our mobility exercises and as we respond to any contingency or crises exercise as well. If we truly train like we fight, then these responses will be second nature to us, and we'll know exactly what to do. I am surrounded by professionals--experts in their fields. I rely on their counsel and advice. And I rely on you to perform at 100 percent at all times. Every good member of a winning team will do his or her best whether we are practicing or actually responding to either one of these issues. Remember, our team is made up of America's finest and each of us must play our position and play it well. Thank you for your service to your country and to this wing. I'll be right there beside you, and together we will make it right. See you tomorrow as we put the "Enable" in "Enabling Combat Power!"
