This is another busy week at Scott AFB! For starters, I'm attending Spring Rally, AMC's senior leadership conference where we're unveiling the much-discussed "My Communities" Facebook application, created by members of our very own 375th Communications Squadron. The app is titled "MyMC2." It draws event postings from Scott AFB-related Facebook pages and compiles all of them into a one-stop shopping site. What's really great about it is that as other bases incorporate the app, users will be able to view their local events for that day or week. We're hoping to have this available for free download by mid-May if all goes according to schedule. Be sure to check out next week's "Command Post" newspaper for an article that details what you can expect to see from the application. We're sure this will be a helpful tool for our base community and will help keep you informed of the many events available to Scott AFB community!

In addition to ensuring a smooth unveiling of the app to AMC's senior leaders, our teams have been conducting activities to support Earth Week. We've been planting trees, recycling electronics and conducting energy awareness events! Hopefully everyone had a chance to dispose of all those electronics that need to be recycled properly. If you missed it though, we're planning to keep this as a quarterly event, so stay tuned.

We'll also have the chance to finish planting the final 20 of 150 trees that we purchased at 10 a.m. on Arbor Day, April 27, at the Club. We purchased 95 as a symbolic gesture to represent the 95th Anniversary of the base and the rest we're planting as a way to give back and beautify the base.

Also this week several Team Scott service members were honored by the USO. Each year the USO of Missouri hosts an annual Salute to Heroes dinner to honor our military men and women. These honorees are selected by their peers for their extraordinary bravery, loyalty and heroism.

As a commander, I'm privileged to review nominations from the wing. I'm always impressed with the work and dedication these nominees demonstrate in service to our nation. To them, it's just another day on the job. To me and others who read what they've accomplished-it's simply amazing. The USO is a fantastic organization that does so much to support our families, and this is just one more way in which they serve. I thank them for their efforts in recognizing these individuals who go above and beyond in their service to this nation.

Finally, on May 5 we'll host our first annual base-wide yard sale. Although we planned for an open-gates event last year, security concerns prevented this. However, we're going to try again, so tell your friends and family. The rain date for the yard sale is May 19.
