Here is the next round of Q&As from my most recent Commander’s Call.

I posted these responses and previous Q&A to our wing Sharepoint site and our public website, www.scott.af.mil, for future access and review.

Please keep the questions coming!

INSTALLATION & FACILITIES

Is there a possibility that the DFAC could provide dairy-free milk for those who are vegetarian/vegan?

Great suggestion! Thank you for your recent feedback/request for a dairy free milk option at the DFAC. We ordered a case of Vanilla/Chocolate Soy Milk and received the shipment May 2, and it was such a hit, we sold out by lunch time. We’ve placed another order and expect the resupply May 5 (pending any shipping/vendor issues).

You may have also noticed the DFAC is going through a major renovation to replace the HVAC, fire suppression, and carpet to better improve the customer experience. While the main kitchen is under construction, our DFAC Team is diligently working inside a small trailer to maintain uninterrupted service and a variety of menu options for Team Scott. A big THANK YOU for their hard work and dedication! We also appreciate your patience as we improve our facilities to better serve you.

Hello, I recently heard that Scott Family Housing (Hunt Companies) is charging for carpet after the exit inspection, regardless of condition. Additionally, I heard they changed the life expectancy of the carpet from 7 years to 10 years and are conducting black light tests to evaluate the condition.

Thank you for your question. We contacted our Scott Family Housing partners about your concerns, and they shared that they do not charge for carpet repair or replacement unless there is damage beyond the normal wear and tear. In addition, their policy is to black light and moisture test any home that has evidence of pets or pet damage. If damage is found, the resident is responsible for a percentage of the cost to repair or replace the carpet based upon the severity of the damage. Damage can be defined as anything that would be considered outside of the normal wear and tear spectrum.

Additionally, Hunt shared that they use a mid-grade carpet which has a life expectancy of 10 years. I hope this answer addresses your concerns. If not, or if you have any additional questions or concerns about Scott Family Housing, please contact their resident specialists who are eager to assist you at (618) 746-4911.

Does AAFES use gasoline from “TOP TIER” fuel sources at on-base gas stations?

That’s a great question! “TOP TIER” is a licensed trademark from certain retailers to communicate that some brands contain additives specifically designed to minimize carbon deposits on fuel injectors, intake valves, and combustion chambers. Currently, AAFES is not a retailer of certified “TOP TIER” fuels. However, AAFES fuel does meet all EPA standards for detergent additives as established in the Clean Air Act. Although it’s not tracked, AAFES does purchase fuel from a variety of sources, so it is possible that some might meet “TOP TIER” standards.

I was just reading the Q&A that was sent this morning. One question concerned lap lanes in the pool. I can understand how swimming and spas can ease injury and stress while help keeping you in shape. I understand that the cost to keep all pools open a few years ago was prohibited. One idea that might be considered is getting one or two “Endless Pools” to provide the exercise and therapy of spas. These don’t take up much space and may be a viable solution if funding would become available.

This is definitely an interesting suggestion and something that would require conversion of existing fitness space to accommodate one or two “Endless Pools.” While we do not have funding or space at this time, this is an item that we can consider as we constantly reassess our functions, facilities, and capabilities across our fitness centers and Force Support Squadron community services. Please contact the Fitness Center Staff, either in person or at by phone at 256-4524, with any additional fitness concerns or suggestions.
