Scott holding public meeting to discuss environment cleanup

  • Published

The Air Force seeks input from the local community in the recommendation of No Further Action for Building 39, aka Site UK500, at Scott Air Force Base.

The USAF will hold a public meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. April 12 to discuss the Proposed Plan for Site UK500. The meeting will be held at the O’Fallon Public Safety Building, 285 N. Seven Hills Road, O’Fallon.

The PP recommends NFA for the public to comment on. The investigation was completed in 2012, and the report recommended a no action determination for Site UK500. The report was approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in August 2013. The USAF, as the lead agency, has selected NFA for Site UK500. The IEPA, as the support agency, concurs with the USAF’s selection.

The formal comment period starts March 13 and ends April 21. Oral and written comments will be accepted at the meeting. A brief informational session will take place at 6 p.m. followed by an open house.
