Implementation of REAL ID Act begins Sept. 15

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. --  

Scott Air Force Base officials remind everyone that the implementation date for the REAL ID Act is Sept. 15.

“Missouri driver’s licenses are not compliant with the REAL ID Act and will no longer be used as a source for ID proofing to gain unescorted access to Scott AFB,” said Lt. Col. Andrew Resch, 375th Security Forces Squadron commander. “Personnel with non-compliant driver’s licenses can still gain access, but only if they have an alternate acceptable form of ID or if they are escorted.”

He also explained that the enforcement affects those who need unescorted entry only.

“I want to emphasize that if you are being escorted by someone who has access privileges to the base through other acceptable forms of ID, then you can use your Missouri driver’s license as a form of ID to enter the base,” he said.

Resch wanted to reassure people who already have guest passes issued before the Sept. 15 deadline that those are still valid for the duration of the pass, even if the expiration date is beyond Sept. 15. He confirmed that there are about 150 visitors every day who come from Missouri or who have a Missouri license, to include contractors and service personnel, who require access to the base.

“Many of our organizations who are sponsoring people on base will now need to escort them if they do not have any other alternate forms of ID that are approved by the REAL ID Act requirements,” he added. “We’ve been working with our contracting personnel and with all those who may be affected to ensure awareness so they can facilitate entry requirements.”

Those with licenses from Minnesota, Washington and American Samoa will also be affected by the law.
