Exchange welcomes McAlister’s Deli to Scott Published Aug. 18, 2016 By Julie Mitchell Army and Air Force Exchange Service SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- With the snip of a ribbon, the Scott Air Force Base Exchange welcomed McAlister’s Deli—the restaurant’s first location on an Army or Air Force installation. The new restaurant brings extra convenience to Airmen and civilians working at Defense Information Systems Agency. Kim Allen, McAlister’s general manager; Matt Fox, Midwest Deli Developments Inc. president; Col. Chris Buschur, 375th Air Mobility Wing vice commander; Paula Gunderson, Army and Air Force Exchange Service central region vice president; Dave Couture, Scott Air Force Base service business manager; and Adam Hubbard, Midwest Deli Developments area manager, cut the ribbon on the new restaurant Aug. 15. “The Exchange is pleased to provide Airmen with a new name-brand dining option,” Rita Sheridan, Scott Exchange general manager, said. “Offering a variety of choices is important, and restaurants such as McAlister’s ensure Team Scott’s needs are being met.” The restaurant, which is open to all who live and work at Scott AFB, is located inside the brand-new DISA building, making it convenient for those who work there to grab breakfast, lunch and dinner. “Most of Exchange’s other restaurants are located on the opposite side of the base,” Sheridan said, “so having McAlister’s right inside the DISA building is a tremendous service.” Offering name brands has become a priority for the Exchange. McAlister’s is the latest in a series of announcements concerning national-brand introductions at Army posts and Air Force bases around the world. Founded in 1989, McAlister’s Deli is a fast casual restaurant chain known for sandwiches, potatoes, soups, salads, desserts and McAlister’s Famous Sweet Tea. McAlister’s is open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekends. “Every time Team Scott dines at McAlister’s, they’ll help make life better for those who live and work here,” Sheridan said. “Roughly two-thirds of every dollar spent at any Exchange facility comes right back to Team Scott. In fact, last year, shopping and dining at the Scott Exchange generated more than $512,000 for quality-of-life programs.” The Army and Air Force Exchange Service goes where Soldiers, Airmen and their families go to improve the quality of their lives through goods and services provided. Exchange earnings provide dividends to support military morale, welfare and recreation programs. The Exchange is part of the Department of Defense and is directed by a Board of Directors, responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and Air Force through the Chiefs of Staff.
