The No. 1 quality-of-life improvement requests at Scott routinely are to upgrade its fitness areas, and a team of people are about mid-way through some major renovation and install projects to meet those needs.

For instance, the Fitness Center is undergoing renovations to install a new and improved heating and cooling system in certain locations, replace ceiling tiles and rework its plumbing. New flooring is in the plans along with showers, locker rooms, and bathroom upgrades, with an estimated completion date later this fall.

Most recently, the James Sports Center installed three scoreboards at the softball fields, and a multi-purpose scoreboard on the football field. Indoors, the sports center will get a new gym divider, bleachers, and wall pads.

“The gym divider allow us to host two separate activities on the basketball court without disturbing each other,” said Gailyn Gonzalez, 375th Force Support Squadron sustainment flight director.

“We also replaced the scoreboards and shot clocks in the basketball court, and the first ever scoreboards at the softball and football fields will enhance our intramural sport program,” Gonzalez added.

The basketball court may be closed during some renovations, but the rest of the facility will be unaffected. In addition, plans include the installation of another section of rubberized material for its running path around the base, which should be completed later this summer.

Along with these renovations, the James Sports Center’s track has been updated within the last year with exercise stations and an upcoming pavilion for squadron PT and other activities.

During renovations, some Fitness Center rooms and equipment may not be available.

“Aside from the few short lived inconveniences, I think that we will continually improve our customer service,” said Senior Airman Candyce Eaton, 375th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist.

“I’m sure all the updates will provide a fresh look and feel for all of our fitness class participants, PT testers, and our daily gym customers.”

Gonzalez said that many customers have been looking forward to these new updates and are excited to see some of their requests be implemented.

“We continually strive to improve the quality of our programs and facilities to enhance the customer experience,” she said, adding that behind the scenes they are collaborating with the 375th Civil Engineering and 375th Contracting Squadrons to bring these improvements to life.
