Tuition assistance returns for military members Published Oct. 23, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Josh Eikren 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- With the government shutdown over, the Air Force has reinstated military tuition assistance, or MilTA. In an Air Force story, Col. Jeff White, Air Force learning division chief, was quoted as saying, "Effective immediately all Military Tuition Assistance applications for courses starting on or after Oct. 17 may be submitted. All previously approved MilTA requests for courses which began on or after Oct. 17 are reinstated." The Air Force policy for courses that started Oct. 1-16 will be distributed as soon as it is available, White said. Air Force officials urge members to monitor www.af.mil and the Air Force Virtual Education Center, or AFVEC, for the most up-to-date information. AFVEC can be accessed through the Air Force portal. An email will be sent through the Air Force Automated Education Management System, notifying members of the reinstatement of their approved MilTA request for courses starting on Oct. 17 and later. According to Scott AFB Education Office, members can enter a degree plan in AFVEC that, once accepted, will give pre-approval of tuition assistance for classes taken toward their plan. "With classes already started, we will be working closely with members on setting up their plan," said Edie Redfern, Scott Education Center service specialist. "By October 2014, you must have an accepted degree plan before you can put in for TA." For more information contact the Education Office at 256-3327
