A speed mentoring event for the five Air Force Space Command units at Scott was held Nov. 7 at Chapel 1.

The event was designed to provide supervisors and their subordinates the opportunity to seek out answers from a panel of mentors with specific expertise on the new Developmental Special Duty program and the cyber career fields.

"It's a unique opportunity to put all these sources in the same room and allow for the knowledge seeker to sit face-to-face with somebody who knows or has experience firsthand," said Senior Master Sgt. Mike Fetters, 92nd Information Operations Squadron superintendent. "We targeted these areas because of recent cyber changes and the DSD assignments coming out soon."

Members from Career Assistance, Recruiting and U.S. Air Force Honor Guard were a few of the special duties that had current and previous members talking about the opportunities available.

Maj. Nicholas Jameson, 38th Cyberspace Readiness Squadron commander, said, "Special duties like the USAF Honor Guard are out there and some people are aware of, but they don't know it's an opportunity for them if they meet the requirements and have the ambition."

Along with special duties, members from the cyberspace career fields were out to inform individuals about different requirements, like certifications, to help them keep up with knowledge of their job and progress in their career.

Master Sgt. Jonathan Ohrt, 92nd IOS, said, "This is a chance for us to reach out to cyber professionals and talk to them about their future. We want to share our knowledge and help inform them of what programs or specialties they're eligible for."

The Communicators' Top IV organization sponsored the event and hopes to have future events that have mentor opportunities for all base personnel.

Fetters said, "With the constantly evolving nature of everything around us today, mentorship opportunities have never been more important."
