375th Medical Group hosts Biomedical Science Corps Week Published Feb. 5, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Kiana Brothers 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Medical Group hosted the second annual Biomedical Science Corps Week Jan. 27-31 to highlight 18 diverse medical career fields, clinicians and scientists. BSC Week is an opportunity to honor the diversity within the biomedical corps, said Col. Bret Burton, the 375th MDG commander. The week of events began with a morning meeting Jan. 27 hosted by Brig. Gen. Jim McCain, BSC chief, with special guests Lt. Col. James Coker, 375th Aerospace Medicine Squadron commander, and Burton. Events open to Scott Air Force Base members included daily tours through the 375th MDG, which showcased each clinic managed by BSC personnel, and a yoga class hosted by Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Christine Blice-Baum. Coker said BSC is working to improve relationships with customers, and the week provided an opportunity to recognize the services offered by BSC officers and technicians. "It is important to take the time to educate and remind the Air Force of the role of the BSC and their important contributions to the Air Force mission," he said. The week also offered an opportunity for patients to ask questions and learn about what BSC offers the community. "Increased awareness and knowledge of the BSC roles and responsibilities leads to improved team cooperation and better overall customer service," said Coker. "Along with boosting the morale of the workers, the patients also benefit by receiving the care that is needed." A majority of the career fields within BSC are more than 95 percent staffed. BSC is also the third largest group at 21 percent that makes up the AFMS active duty officers. Coker said it was rewarding to have the opportunity to recognize the impact that the BSC officers and technicians make every day, directly impacting and improving the lives of the Scott AFB community.
