Spouses recognized for contribution to Team Scott Published March 5, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Col. Kyle J. Kremer, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, recognized spouses from the base who go above and beyond on base and in the community during the 2013 Wing annual awards ceremony. "Our military spouses are too often under-recognized and under-appreciated for their selfless support for our Airmen and their families. These awards are just a small way to recognize their contribution and say, 'Thank you!'" said Kremer. During the dinner two women were recognized: Wing Spouse of the Year, Yvonne A. Callaway, 375th Force Support Squadron; and Key Spouse of the Year, Meryl Glidewell, 375th Communications Support Squadron. During her time at Scott, Callaway served as a spouse mentor for FSS where she developed a squadron program to have lunch with families of deployed Airmen, child development appreciation meals, thank you events for youth center staff, and worked with local schools to send deployed Airmen thank you cards--just a few examples of her contributions. She hails from Brookston, Ind., and is a mother of five children. She has been very active in base and church organizations throughout the 15 years her family has been in the Air Force. Glidewell has been the cornerstone of revitalizing a dormant squadron Key Spouse program and is a model for key spouses. She has expanded the program's usefulness not only for the families of military members, but also for civilian and contractor team members. She worked with squadron leadership and developed a game plan to reach members via social media and targeted e-mail groups that started with five members and has grown to over 40 in a few short months. Kremer added, "Despite their own challenges that come with being married to the military, our spouses amaze me every day with their generous gift of time, caring and support for those who need a little help. We cannot thank them enough for what they do." Training for Key Spouses is provided through the Airman and Family Readiness Center and those interested should contact Jere Jaline at 256-8668 or jere.jaline@us.af.mil.
