April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month Published March 26, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Kiana Brothers 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- During April, several activities will be held at Scott Air Force Base to raise awareness about sexual assault and to promote prevention. "SAAM provides an opportunity for commands to highlight the Department of Defense and Air Force policies addressing sexual assault prevention and response," said Pamela Dorsey, the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. There will be a proclamation ceremony to kick off the month April 4 at 9 a.m. at the Global Reach Planning Center. Survivor stories will be narrated during the ceremony and Col. Kyle Kremer, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, will sign the proclamation. Other events include a dorm meal April 9 at 5 p.m., and a Zumbathon April 11 at 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Youth Center gym. There will be instructors and individuals can participate for as long as they choose. A 5k run is scheduled for April 25 with the starting events beginning at the parade field. Shirts will be given out at this event and also throughout the month in support of SAAM. Other events include a Texts of Terror discussion with the wing chapel, and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Stand Down Day. In addition, every Monday in April, goodie bags will be handed out at the gate from 8-9 a.m. and 1-2 p.m.
