Electrical infrastructure upgraded Published April 2, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Kiana Brothers 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Civil Engineer Squadron and contractors completed one of many ongoing electrical projects Sunday. Electricians replaced transformers and worked on generators. The project was part of upgrades to Scott Air Force Base's power distribution system, and preventative maintenance. "We are replacing systems within this area that were put in place more than 40 years ago with all new systems," said Lt. Col. David Novy, 375th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. Several power outages were scheduled that day to allow the installation of permanent connections between facilities and power lines. Flyers were handed out around the area to inform people who were affected. "These planned outages allow us to upgrade components to modern standards on an orderly schedule, versus an unexpected emergency response that would likely require days or longer to fix," Novy said. The outage affected Colonial and Georgian Housing, all facilities east of Scott Drive and west of the flightline, to include Hangar 1, the 375th Air Mobility Wing headquarters, and the Cardinal Creek Golf Course clubhouse. All overhead electric lines and poles associated with Scott's substation No. 1 have been replaced with new lines. Future projects include the remaining work needed to connect all facilities to the new lines. The 375th CES has outages planned throughout the next four months.
