Dorm residents getting bike storage after request Published June 12, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Kiana Brothers 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, ILLINIOS -- Sunshine, rain and snow are just a few weather elements that can damage a bicycle, when it is exposed to too much of it. Some ways to protect a bicycle from being ruined include keeping it inside or in a storage locker.\ Scott's dorm residents are in the process of receiving bicycle lockers for securely storing their bikes. A few Airmen, living in the dorms, pitched the idea to dorm management, and soon Master Sgt. Adam Page set this plan in motion. This project is funded by the 375th Air Mobility Wing and currently under construction. One set of lockers is completed in the court yard of Mascoutah Hall dormitory. The second set of bike lockers is currently being built. As the temperatures climb, participation in outdoor activities also rises. Airmen may choose to go hiking or camping, while others get exercise when they ride their bicycles to work. "Airmen are already asking when the lockers will be available to use," said Page, the 375th dorm superintendent. At the moment, residents' bicycle racks are outside the dorms, unsecure, and unprotected from weather. With the installation of the lockers, Airmen won't be forced to keep their bikes outside. "The lockers are available for all of the dorm residents, but we are only able to place them at Shiloh Hall and Mascoutah Hall," said Staff Sgt. Jason Relik, a dormitory leader. Dorm residents are able to reserve a bike locker at Mascoutah Hall by having a key issued to them by dorm management. "Generally, people who have bikes have shown eagerness for the assembly of the lockers to be completed, so that their bikes can finally be put in there," said Airman 1st Class Tae Kim.
