Cyber Readiness Inspection starts next week Published July 2, 2014 By Senior Master Sgt. Rebecca M. Henrichsen Cyber Operations Flight superintendent SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- During the week of July 7-11 the Defense Information Systems Agency under the direction of the United States Cyber Command will conduct a Command Cyber Readiness Inspection of the 375th Air Mobility Wing. The CCRI is a technical and operational inspection program that reviews and analyzes a base's network readiness and security practices to ensure compliance with Department of Defense standards. DISA, as the organization responsible for the operation and protection of the Department of Defense Information Network, will scan and evaluate the 375th AMW systems for vulnerabilities and review documentation and procedures for compliance. Any base found below DoD standards could be disconnected from the DoDIN and lose all outside connectivity. If this were to happen at Scott Air Force Base, it would potentially impact the base's ability to support the mission. The 375th Communication Group is leading Team Scott's CCRI preparation by ensuring all network systems are patched and properly configured to reduce vulnerabilities. However, the information protection components of the inspection are the responsibility of the entire 375th AMW. Inspectors will assess general information protection and information assurance practices of work centers throughout the wing and may stop to ask questions of personnel they encounter. User awareness and vigilance is the most critical aspect of protecting network assets. The 375th AMW needs each organization and base member to fully prepare to ensure success by doing their part to secure the network by always doing the following: · Always secure your Common Access Card and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network token when you leave your computer; · Use proper classification markings on documents, disk media, and communications equipment (i.e. computers, monitors, phones, etc.) in a mixed environment; · Know your organizations Information Assurance Officer and security manager; · Reboot your Nonsecure Internet Protocol Router Network desktop or laptop daily; · Properly safeguard and store classified information; · Power on and log in to SIPR machines during SIPR uptime periods (currently Tuesday's and Wednesday's); · Never connect unauthorized devices (i.e cell phones, flash memory-based storage drives, Universal Serial Bus devices, etc.) to government owned computers; · Do not use communications closets for storage; · Keep wireless devices (i.e. cellular devices, two-way radios, Bluetooth devices, PDA's, etc,.) away from classified areas and systems; · Ensure your classified display is not visible from any windows, doorways, or other openings; and · Escort unauthorized personnel While these information protection practices are important during inspections, the 375th Communication Group encourages all base personnel to practice a culture of compliance as part of their daily work routine.
