The Scott Education Office is hosting an education fair Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scott Club.

"In today's highly competitive job market, one single delimitating factor can be level and type of postsecondary education," said Roland Smith, 375th Force Support Squadron, education manager.  "Although consisting of only a few lines on a resume, educational level and/or technical certifications are imperative to acquire and retain most jobs."

As a person's education level increases, the unemployment rate decreases. The unemployment rate in 2013 for those with a high school diploma was 7.5 percent compared to a bachelor's degree which was 4 percent and a master's degree was 3.4 percent as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Furthermore, education plays an essential role in the amount of money a person earns.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the median weekly income for those who have a high school diploma is $651, while weekly income for those with a bachelor's or master's degree is $1,108 and $1,329 respectively.

"With the uncertainty of rapidly changing job markets resulting from uncontrollable world markets, furthering one's education is a vital component in preparing for a fluid future," said Smith. "Higher education helps individuals get and keep a job, increase salary potential and expand career opportunities.  Ultimately, postsecondary and graduate education help individuals achieve their personal goals."

The Scott Education Center hopes the education fair will allow Team Scott personnel to gain information needed to help members pursue and advance their education whether they decide to stay in the Air Force or transition to civilian workforce.

This year's theme is, "Your Future is Now!" The fair will be a one-stop shop for individuals to meet with approximately 40 college, university and educational agency representatives. College and university representatives will be on hand to personally speak to attendees regarding degree specific courses, financial aid, school specific scholarships and grants, and how use of GI Bill benefits may allow members to attend college at the lowest cost possible.   Most of the schools offer or specialize in multiple associate, bachelor, master, doctorate degrees and certificates.
