Scott student earns scholarship Published July 16, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Marissa Schatz, 18, received the 2014 Air Force Club Membership Scholarship at Scott Air Force Base recently. Her parents, Maj. Gen. Rowayne Schatz and Kim Schatz are Scott Club members and that's how she heard about the scholarship. This scholarship opportunity was another one of the benefits the Schatz family has received since becoming a club member. "Being awarded this scholarship was a huge honor because it came from an organization that I've grown up with as a military brat," said Marissa. "This scholarship shows how blessed I am to be a part of an association that cares about its members to the extent of assisting them in paying for their future educational endeavors." Marissa will be attending the University of California Los Angeles in the fall where she will be pursuing a degree in Biology in hopes of continuing on to dental school and eventually becoming an orthodontist. "I believe scholarship opportunities like this are important because they showcase how beneficial Air Force and military programs are to the community," said the soon to be college freshman. Marissa said she will be using the money to help pay for tuition fees and she feels extremely grateful to be awarded the Air Force Club Membership scholarship. "I hope more students of Scott Air Force Base will apply for this scholarship in the future!"
