Command post is the focal point of base operations Published Aug. 20, 2014 By Senior Airman Tristin English 375 AMW/PA SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Command post is one of the key focal points for Scott Air Force base, as well as the flightline. "The command post is the eyes and ears of the base for the 375th Air Mobility Wing commander," said Master Sgt. William Bassett, 375th Command Post superintendent. "If anything happens on the base, whether it is an exercise, an aircraft incident or an active shooter, they [command post controllers] will advise the base commander and communicate with everyone who needs to know, what's going on." When the wing commander wants to have a base exercise it is kicked off by the command post personnel. The CP responds to all the emergency actions that possibly would come down from higher headquarters and distribute it to the base. "We are the giant messaging center on for the entire base," said Maj. Matthew Eck, Command Post chief. It is also in the Command Post job description to keep track of all the aircraft coming in and out of Scott. "If personnel want on the flightline they will call us first [the command post] to request access and they must have a line badge," said Tech. Sgt. Joseph Amore, 375 Command Post emergency controller. "Then we will call Security Forces to let them know someone will be on the flightline. It is the command post responsibility to let SF know how many people are coming onto the flightline for accountability reasons. If there is someone who isn't supposed to be on they will be able to tell." The command post always follows a checklist and has multiple resources for ensuring a message is relayed. The CP Airmen use the loud voice, AtHoc message system and radios sent messages out." Eck concluded, "We make sure all important information goes to all the people who need to know is communicated."
