The Combined Federal Campaign is set to kick off at Scott Air Force Base Sept. 23 with an event on the parade field from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Lunch tickets will be sold by unit CFC representatives today through Sept. 16.

This year's theme is "I Make It Possible."

"This event is a great opportunity to meet some of the charities and really learn about what they are doing in our community to make a difference," said Maj. Amanda Scoughton, Scott CFC chairman.

The CFC kickoff at Scott is the largest event in the CFC region, known as Gateway CFC, and this year's goal is to raise $900,000 or more.

More than 120 charities will be present to discuss their programs with base employees, and the Air Force Band of Mid-America will be playing live music.

"Nearly 1,000 people came out to the kick-off last year, so we hope that even more come out this year," said Scoughton.

Many charities depend on donations given through the CFC because it keeps their overhead costs low allowing them to provide the resources, programs, and services necessary to rebuild and improve lives.

Whether your interest is in food/housing for the poor, disaster relief, health, education, international aid, the environment or the arts, you can choose from a list of more than 3,100 charities to donate to.

"This is an easy way to donate to your favorite charities and a modest contribution can add up to make a big difference. No gift is too small, and every gift makes it possible," she said.

Scott is the Vanguard Division in its CFC region, with Maj. Amanda Scoughton, Air Mobility Command headquarters, as this year's chairman and Capt Jeremy Stuursma, vice-chairman.

"CFC provides a sense of assurance where I can make a donation to a legitimate charity and know I am helping those who are truly in need," said Scoughton. "The event helps give donors and recipients a venue to 'Make It Possible.'"

In case of inclement weather, the kickoff will be moved to Hangar 1.
