Just like any other city or state, Scott Air Force Base has its own curfew laws for minors.

"The intent of curfew on the installation is not intended to interfere with normal, everyday life of the residents living on Scott Air Force Base," said Master Sgt. Joshua Coggins, 375th Security Forces Squadron NCOIC of operations. "The primary purpose of a curfew is to minimize or decrease the number of disciplinary problems involving dependent children and to maintain good order and discipline on base and affiliated off-base properties."

According to the 375th Security Forces Squadron regulation, on base, individuals under the age of 16 have a curfew of 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., seven days a week. Individuals ages 16 to 17 have a curfew of 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. seven days a week.

Persons 18 years of age and older, though excluded from the curfew, are prohibited from congregating in crowds within the streets when their actions or conduct are annoying other residents or their actions are such that they constitute an act of vandalism, malicious mischief, harassment, etc.

"Juveniles may exceed these hours, whether escorted or not, if they are returning from a chaperoned function on or off base or place of employment; however, they must proceed by the most direct route to their home," said Coggins. "They may also exceed these hours if they are sent on an errand by their parents, guardians, or other individuals having the legal charge of such minor(s). After returning from any function, errands or place of employment, minors will not be allowed to remain on the street or in or upon any unoccupied premises or grounds within the limits or controlled areas of the installation."

Security Forces may detain and return to the Base Defense Operation Center, or to the sponsor, any person(s) found in violation of this instruction. If the violator is returned to the BDOC, the sponsor or guardian will be notified and instructed to respond to the desk and take control of the violator. If the sponsor or guardian cannot be contacted, the parent or guardian's commander or First Sergeant will be notified; as a last resort the on-call legal officer will be contacted for guidance. In any event, a written report may be completed and forwarded to the commander of the sponsor.
