Networking night held at Scott Club Published Sept. 29, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Maria Bowman 375th Air Mobility Command Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Airmen preparing to transition into the civilian workforce were invited to attend a networking event held at the Scott Club Sept. 25. Dressed in business professional attire, 100 Airmen met with prospective employers from the local area, who were hoping to hire veterans. "The purpose of the networking event was to get as many of our Airmen connected to businesses that have job openings," said Ellen Krohn, Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois executive director. "The people who are exiting the base have the skills that our employers are looking for; they know how to show up on time and do the things that make a business successful. We want those Airmen to continue to be part of fabric of Southwestern Illinois." Victor Valdes, a local employer, said he felt the event was successful because he was able to meet with many skilled candidates. "I think it went great and was well worth the time," he said. "There was a lot of interaction between myself and the candidates. They were very well presented." Sandra Grossman, a military spouse, attended the event and said she feels that the event helped introduce her to companies she would love to work for in the future. "I really enjoyed the event and it was very helpful," she said. "I actually got to talk to people from companies I applied to before. Being able to talk to them in person, I think I actually have such better chances to even being considered for a job." Krohn said she hopes the event matched up military members with employers looking for their skills. The goal of the event was to facilitate employment in the region for as many Team Scott members as possible. "If we can find a job for everyone who wants to stay here by making these connections--we think that's a positive thing for the whole region," she said.
