Zeppelins restaurant is now open inside the Scott Club Published Oct. 27, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing, Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE,Ill. -- What used to be known as the Enlisted Lounge in the Scott Club is no longer. Now when customers walk in they will see an entirely new atmosphere of walls decorated with large, flat screen televisions, a ceiling and bar that change colors and most importantly a revamped menu at the new restaurant Zeppelins. "Today we are here to celebrate the opening of Zeppelins," said, 375th Force Support Squadron Commander. "The name was chosen because in 1921 Scott was transformed into a lighter than air balloon school also known as Zeppelins. The Zeppelins played a large contribution to Scott history and AF capabilities of aerial photography, meteorology and altitude experiments." In November, of 2013, three 375th FSS facilities began renovations to improve the quality of life here. Two of those facilities, the James Sports Center and the Cardinal Creek Golf Course, were completed earlier this year. The third and final project, the Scott Club, was completed this month. The Scott Club improvements were identified and funded through the Air Force Personnel Center Services Transformation Project. This initiative began in 2011 and the rationale behind the STP was to streamline operations and tailor services to best meet the needs of the members assigned to each specific base. That is exactly what members of the 375th FSS, Contracting Squadron, Civil Engineering Squadron and club staff had in mind when they were designing Zeppelins. "Most of the Scott Club renovations, the new large kitchen where "Bread Works" was, public announcement system and conference room in the old Officers Lounge, were completed in August," said 1st Lt. Tomika Smith, 375th Sustainment Services Flight Commander. "All the renovations that took place in the Scott Club will aim to help the facility become a multipurpose event center in the future." Because the club is becoming a multipurpose center, it will no longer be separated by ranked lounges. Instead the Officers Lounge was renovated into a conference center and heritage lounge and the Enlisted Lounge has become available for all to enjoy. Michael Crawford, Club Manager said he has opened seven restaurants in his career and Zeppelins is his favorite. "Zeppelins has such a unique concept and menu," he said. "The menu has more than 37 different food items and also caters to people with specific preferences such as gluten allergies, vegetarians etc. I think this place will be a great addition to the base." The center or club will continue to hosts its regular activities but customers can also see new events at Zeppelins. For now the restaurant is only open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information visit www.375fss.com
