Nearly 130 Team Scott artists submitted roughly 280 pieces of art to the base's annual Arts and Crafts Show this year.

The show was an opportunity to showcase the artwork done by members of the base community and was displayed at the base library Oct. 20-15. This year's theme was "Sea to Shining Sea."

The official judging took place the morning of Oct. 20, and ribbons were displayed next to the winners' artwork. Later in evening, a reception was held allowing nearly 300 members to view the artwork.

"This year's theme was selected by a group of active duty military judges, and 34 of 280 entries were submitted under this year's show theme," said Gary Olds, Arts and Crafts Center Programs Coordinator. "That represents the artwork of 17 artisans from a total of 130."

The annual themes have always had a patriot resonance, said Olds. This year's theme, "Sea to Shining Sea," was selected from the lyrics of the patriotic song, "America the Beautiful."

Overall categories included wood, metal, painting, sculpture, drawing and more. Entry into the show was free and individuals were able to submit up to three entries. Awards and recognition were given within each age group: 6 to 12 years old, 13 to 17 years old, and 18 years and older.

The Best of Show award was designated to a multi-media artwork by Jacquelyn Kruzic and the Commander's Choice Theme award went to Norma Jackson. There were many other winners including Senior Airman Laura Muehl, who won fourth place in the category of digital photography.

"I love being able to participate because there aren't a lot of opportunities to show your work," said Muehl, a second year participant of the art show. "I look forward to it every year."

On the fifth day of the art show, the first to fourth place winners and honorable mentions were photographed with their artwork for Air Force Arts and Crafts Gallery website.

"Participants can send the link of the website to family members throughout the United States," said Bill Armstrong, Arts and Crafts Center Director. "It gives grandparents a chance to see their grandkids' artwork."

For many years, Scott has entered the highest amount of artwork to be placed in the Air Force gallery. Artwork can be viewed at www.usafservices.com/airforcegallery.aspx.
