Library Auditorium closing for renovations Published Dec. 17, 2014 By Senior Airman Joshua Eikren 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Since March of 2013, the Library Auditorium has been going through changes. It went from the Base Theater, with a focus on entertaining Team Scott with movies, to the auditorium it is today where all-calls and professional development seminars educate and inspire Airmen. Starting Monday, the Library Auditorium will close temporarily as it undergoes a makeover through the first quarter of the year. There are plans to re-open in early April. "The Library Auditorium is undergoing several renovations during this time period, some more noticeable than others," said Tamela Smith, 375 Force Support Squadron Supervisory Librarian. "All of the walls will be getting new paint, the carpet will be replaced, the stage floor will be refinished, the concrete floor underneath the seating area is being stripped and repainted, and the office in the lobby is being renovated." Smith added that the changes will also include removing the movie posters on the walls of the lobby and bricking in a ticket window. This is to improve the appearance of the building and how it will be used in the future. "These changes are happening to transform the building to better align with how it is now being used: a space to have professional meetings and events," said Jorge De La Vega, 375th FSS Force Development Flight Chief. "Since the library took over the building in March 2013 we have been slowly altering the appearance of the building to a more professional and inviting space." Other changes include replacing the stage curtains, reupholstering the fabric around the screen, new lobby furniture and new exterior benches. "This building has become a high-use space," said De La Vega. "We want to ensure that the building is well maintained for all users." One other future endeavor is the upgrade of the audio/visual system. The library also plans to continue showing monthly free movies to the community once it's re-opened. "The main goal with the Library Auditorium is to have a space for the base to use," said Smith. "It is the largest free use space available at Scott Air Force Base with 480 seats, therefore in high-demand." The Library Auditorium scheduler is currently closed and will re-open when a completion date is confirmed. For more information contact Tamela Smith at 256-3028.
