Auditorium renovations complete, open for use Published April 8, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Megan Friedl 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Library Auditorium is back in business after four months of renovations. Starting today, with a 375th Air Mobility Wing commander's call, the Library Auditorium is open to hold professional development seminars, meetings, morale events and other base-affiliated functions. Jorge De La Vega, 375th Force Support Squadron Force Development Flight Chief, said, "Transforming the old base theater into the Library Auditorium it is now makes it more inviting to the base populace." The renovations include repainting walls, replacing carpet and refinishing the stage, which had 200 gouges filled. Additionally, workers stripped the concrete floor and repainted it, the office in the lobby was renovated, the stage curtains were replaced, and new furniture and exterior benches were placed in the lobby. Beginning in May or June there are plans to host free family friendly movies to the base populace. Also, movies that are geared specifically to children will be available during their summer break. Tamela Smith, 375th FSS Supervisory Librarian, said, "Thanks to my limited library staff of eight people, we are responsible for ensuring that the auditorium stays clean and orderly." The facility managers, Smith and De La Vega agreed that they were glad the changes have been made, but already have high hopes to make more renovations for the Library Auditorium in the future. They want to have two more phases of changes. For phase two they would like to have more work done on the foyer, receive a new ceiling, remove unused appliances, finish green room sheet rock and more. Phase three would be focused on upgrading their audio and visual system. "We're hoping that phase two and three will be funded for the other changes to happen and the base to benefit from them in the upcoming year." said De La Vega. Microphones provided by the 375th Communications Squadron, the screen and the sound system are all available to check out for an event. "I'm glad that it is now a more presentable and pleasant atmosphere," said Smith. If you are interested in hosting an event at the Library Auditorium their calendar of events is on their EIM site.
