The Air Force has been known to care for the health and well-being of its Airmen and their loved ones. The 375th Dental Squadron Oral Surgery Clinic is part of the team that opens their services to not only active duty members, but also retirees and their family members.

The oral surgery team is available to provide wisdom teeth extractions, biopsies, trauma, implants, care for facial infections and other jaw related problems. Although they are part of the Dental Squadron all of the oral surgery procedures are held in the 375th Medical Group Clinic on the second floor.

Lt. Col. Jerry Leonard, 375th DS Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon, has been certified as a surgeon for more than eight years and has been working at Scott Air Force Base for about a year.

The team of oral surgeons work to give care and expertise. In a one year time-span, they have had several thousand patients, about 150 sedations and continually trained four residents in advanced general dentistry. The residents are trained by Leonard to be more capable and efficient during oral surgery operations.

Leonard said, "Not only do we have four residents every year, but we maintain currency for them and for the providers also."

Staff Sgt. Brittany Lanahan, 375th DS Oral Surgery NCOIC, said, "Because of the residents that assist in procedures, we are able to see many more patients than usual. Scott is one of the few training bases that offer a training program like this."

Because of the demographic of a high number of retirees at Scott, the 375th DS Oral Surgery Clinic wants to emphasize to these people that the oral surgery clinic can offer them their exceptional services.

The requirements to be seen in the clinic if you are not an active duty member are as follows: you must be a retiree and neither spouse can be currently serving on active duty. You must have a referral from a civilian dentist with the teeth to be extracted.

If you are interested in any of these procedures, please contact Staff Sgt. Brittany Lanahan at 256-7503 to schedule your evaluation appointment.
