Scott will host events for National Police Week

On October 1, 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 recognizing every May 15 as National Police Officer's Memorial Day. Additionally, every week containing May 15 is designated National Police Week, reserved for recognizing the dedication, fortitude, accomplishments, and responsibilities of our nation's law enforcement professionals. This year Team Scott will recognize National Police Week 2015 May 11-16.

This year's schedule of events is as follows:

Monday, May 11: The 375th Security Forces will host a SFS only team challenge amongst the defenders. The challenge will consist of four-man teams running a 10K with a unique security forces challenge at each mile interval that will test each team of defenders both mentally and physically. Tuesday, May 12: The "33rd Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service" will take place at Living Memorial outside of the St. Clair County Jail in downtown Belleville, beginning at 9 a.m. The service will be open to everyone. The Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service is a unique, non-denominational service paying final respects to all law enforcement and public safety officers who, through the course of their profession, made the ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives while upholding justice. Wednesday, May 13: The SFS has invited the entire base to participate in a "National Police Week Golf Scramble," with registration beginning at 8 a.m., and a start time of 9 a.m. The cost will be $50 per person or $200 per team, cash only, due at registration on the day of the tournament. Thursday, May 14: The SFS has invited the entire base to participate in a softball tournament. Team entrance fee is $50, and families and friends are welcome. Friday, May 15: The SFS will hold their annual community-oriented policing display at the Base Exchange from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The display will include weapons and vehicle displays as well as the Compukid Child Identification Kit, and an opportunity to fight against the "red man." This event will be held in conjunction with the Base Exchange Food Truck Friday. For more information, contact Senior Airmen Connor Patron at 256-2670.

Saturday, May 16: The SFS Military Working Dog Section and local law enforcement K-9 units will have a friendly dog team competition for the honors of claiming "Top Dog."The event will be held at the Southwester Illinois College Belleville campus softball fields.
