Off season: Civil engineers upgrading salt storage, snow plow facilities Published July 15, 2015 By Senior Airman Jake Eckhardt 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Members of the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron renovate areas and complete construction projects to keep Scott Air Force Base up-to-date throughout the year. One project the team is working on is building a new salt-storage facility near building 3200. Randall McGeehon, 375th CES Structural Repair Foreman, said, "Currently we don't have enough space to store salt used for the roads. The more you can store the cheaper it is." Airmen from Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, helped with the project that began June 8. The Scott civil engineers are also renovating building 3200, which is where they store the snow removal equipment. They are installing new water and communication lines, heating and air conditioning, and walls. The building is going to be an alternate location for the 375th CES Emergency Operations Center. The project started in early May and the projected completion date is by the end of August. Senior Airman Max Shomate, 375th CES Structural Journeyman, said, "The updated building will make the snow season much more enjoyable. We're pretty busy during the winter, so having an updated area for us will boost morale." The team also repaved North Drive, which is near the dormitories on the west side of base. A 45 by 100 foot pavilion to be built at the running track is currently being bid on by contractors.
