The Scott Air Force Base Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office hosted a "Back to School Bowl-a-thon" at the Stars and Strikes Bowling Center Aug. 13 at Scott.

The SAPR office goal was to get the message out more often and through different methods such as this event.

The purpose of the event was to provide important information about how to prevent and respond to sexual assault while in a relaxed and stress-free environment. There was great collaboration from other helping agencies including Family Advocacy, Exceptional Family Member Program, Youth Programs, and the Chapel.

Servicemembers, family members, and civilians filled the bowling alley with smiles and laughter while challenging each other in a game.

Teams of five or less competed against each other for a chance to win a variety of prizes. Overall, approximately 100 Team Scott members participated in the fun event.

Other organizations on base also participated in supporting the event and bringing information to all the Airmen.

The SAPR office helps to ensure quality of life for victims of crimes of sexual assault. The office also assigns a victim advocate who is trained to support the victim by providing referral information about on-base and off-base helping agency services, to include medical, legal, and crisis intervention. Serving as a single point of accountability for DOD sexual assault policy.

The Scott SAPR office offers guidance and support for victims of sexual assaults, unit commanders, first responders, and those who wish to prevent or respond to sexual assault crimes.

According to the Department of Defense 2014 Annual Sexual Assault Report, 73 percent of survivors said that they would recommend others report a sexual assault and 73 percent of survivors were satisfied with the unit commander/director's response to the sexual assaults.
