New commander leading the 375th Operations Group Published Aug. 21, 2015 By Senior Airman Megan Friedl 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Col. Perry Long assumed command from Col. Jeanette Voigt as commander of the 375th Operations Group Aug. 14 at Scott, after returning from a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. Long has been serving in the Air Force for 23 years after earning his commission from the Air Force Academy in 1992, with a degree in management. He has served in major operations including Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and Operation Resolute Support. He was previously assigned to Scott AFB within the Headquarters AMC Director of Operations staff. He spent the last year deployed as the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing chief of staff. Col. Laura Lenderman, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, said, "I know the command will be in good hands with Col. Long taking over." After assuming command, Long expressed his excitement for serving in the 375th Operations Group. Long said, "I am looking forward to being the commander of this group and continuing this legacy of great performance." After serving 24 years in the Air Force with two of those spent at Scott, Voigt finished her Air Force career and will retire effective Oct 1. As the 375th OG commander, Voigt was responsible for leading 524 personnel in six squadrons and one detachment located at three different locations within the U.S. Long will now be taking on that responsibility. Lenderman presided over the change of command ceremony. She said she was proud of the accomplishments that Voigt has made here at Scott. At the ceremony, Lenderman presented Voigt with the Legion of Merit to honor her outstanding service to the Air Force during her time at Scott and throughout her 24-year career. Voigt was quick to note that the award was really a credit to the Airmen of the 375th OG. "I really couldn't do any of those things [in the award] by myself," said Voigt. "The Airmen were the ones that really made things happen here."
