The Military Racquetball Federation hosted a racquetball clinic for wounded and disabled service members Nov. 13 at the James Sports Center.

MRF is a nonprofit organization that promotes racquetball programs and events for service members here and abroad including support of events for troops in war zones.
The MRF is also committed to assisting Wounded Warriors with their rehabilitation using a new MRF program called Racquetball Rehabilitation Clinics. This program's focus is the use of racquetball as rehabilitation for both the physical and mental challenges caused by negative combat experiences.

"Our mission is to go around the country assisting our veterans and Wounded Warriors through new opportunities," said Steven Harper, Executive Director of MRF and U.S. Navy retired lieutenant commander. "Veterans are always looking for new opportunities. Adaptive sports are part of their rehabilitation and helps them feel normal again."

Ten people attended the first day when Col. Laura Lenderman, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, attended to show her support. Twelve members attended the second day of the clinic.

Retired Master Sgt. Yee Cheng, said "We get good feedback and people say they really enjoy this. A majority of them returned the second day because they were so excited."

Overall the MRF officials were pleased with the turnout and would like to be able to have events and clinics like this more often.

"Seeing our wounded and disabled service members gain back self-confidence makes it all worth it," said Harper.
