The 375th Air Mobility Wing continues to make improvements in the base's fitness areas, not only to give more workout options for people, but also to improve the overall atmosphere.

This comes as a direct result of feedback solicited by both the current and former wing commanders who asked what needed to be fixed on base. And now, thanks to the combined work of the 375th Force Support Squadron and the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron, a wide variety of improvements are being made such as renovations to an aerobics room, new equipment in both gyms and upgrades to the outdoor track area.

"Right now we're overhauling the Fitness Center aerobics room to include new paint, a new sound system, and new floors. We're hoping it's going to liven up the experience that people have when they go in there. The sound system is much higher quality than what we've had in the past and that is a big step forward," said Tech. Sgt. Mike Cich, the NCOIC of the Fitness and Sports program.

He said the aerobics room renovation should be completed by mid-December. Other improvements in the Fitness Center include all new cardio equipment and updates on the heating and air system.

"This particular building has a lot of history, but has remained untouched for many years. The updating and modernizing is going to bring a fresh experience and atmosphere to the building," said Cich.

After the aerobics room renovation is completed, the James Sports Center will then receive a facelift: a new scoreboard, bleachers and court floors.

Fitness enthusiasts can now challenge themselves at 18 stations around the outdoor track which offers balance, sit-up, push-up, and pull-up challenges. Additionally, a covered workout pavilion is being constructed to afford some protection from inclement weather when exercising.

Capt. Eric Diehl, 375th CES Operations Flight commander, said, "It gives Airmen another place to work out even if the weather isn't perfect outside . . . it's another option besides being inside the gym."

The pavilion will be 50x100 feet long and include lights, fans, pull-up and sit-up bars, and a large rubberized floor to comfortably accommodate 50 to 60 people. It's estimated to be completed by mid-January.

Diehl explained that the rubberized pavilion floor can't be installed during the winter because the glue won't dry so the flooring will be installed in the spring. All other improvements to the Fitness Center and James Sports Center should be completed by mid-summer.
