Suggestions and equipment help with dorm renovations Published Dec. 18, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Melissa Estevez 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Il. -- The 375th Air Mobility Wing leadership and dorm management teams worked together recently to renovate and improve the quality of life for dorm residents. "The quality of life for Airmen is a high priority because it's one of leadership's high priorities," said Master Sgt. Bo Toft, 375th Civil Engineering Squadron dorm management superintendent. Based on suggestions from the dorm council, 118 mattresses were replaced, with more scheduled as residents change out. Also, Scott AFB purchased an industrial pressure washer mounted to a trailer, which makes it easier for Airmen to clean walkways and stairs. This new machine also eliminates excess noise for Airmen who work night shifts and sleep during the day. Staff Sgt. Justin Schichler, 375th CES airmen dormitory leader, said the Airman's Dorm Council represents 358 dorm residents and works to implement their ideas such as upgrading the dehumidification systems. Two industrial dehumidification systems were purchased and placed in rooms that have been subject to water damage. The old process took 80 hours to place the room back into service, but now it can be returned to service within eight hours. Future plans to improve the facilities are being pursued, such as a kitchen renovation project that will make it easier for the 130 residents of the Belleville dormitory to cook and prepare homemade meals. The plan is to expand the current kitchen facility with one oven and microwave to a much larger area. The new plans would add a two double ovens, two range tops, double sink and dishwasher, as well as two microwaves around a café-style dining area. Staff Sgt. Eric Dudley, 375th CES airmen dormitory leader, said it's important to make these improvements for the dorm Airmen. "If you look out for your Airmen, your Airmen are going to do a better job. Improving their quality of life will improve their quality of work," he said.
