Every Airman has a story, but not all stories are told.

However, Airmen will have a chance to share their stories of resiliency at the "Storytellers" event scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 15 at the Scott Event Center.

Originating at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, Storytellers began with seven Airmen talking about their stories of resilience, perseverance, and growth, inspiring and providing hope to the audience.

Staff Sgt. Maurice Monroe, 375th Force Support Squadron First Term Airmen Center NCOIC said, "The Scott NCO Council Development Team wanted to re-create this event at Scott AFB and provide all members of Team Scott, regardless of affiliation, an opportunity to share their stories of resilience."

In today's Air Force, Airmen receive development training in a variety of forms--online slideshows, lunch time briefings, commander's calls, and multiple day conferences.
Every approach is geared to develop Airmen, increase their resilience and security, and strengthen the Air Force.

Unlike those structured forums, Storytellers provides a more informal atmosphere. During the event, attendees will listen to raw, personal stories from their peers in a relaxed environment.

Tech. Sgt. Kiana Monroe, 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing command chief assistant said, "Storytellers is meant to provide real stories in raw form and an experience that will motivate others to either want to share their stories or get the help they need."

Five speakers, ranging from Airmen to company grade officers, are ready to share their unique stories, including people from all different types of jobs.

One volunteer said he is looking forward to sharing his experiences overcoming hardships.

"Most fuels personnel do not experience almost being killed in a car bomb attack and firefight," said Master Sgt. Gustav Damann, 375th Air Mobility Command Inspector General Command fuels inspector.

"I always get a little amped when I talk about my event, but it is good to talk about; it allows me to take back some control of the experience, it's almost therapeutic."

Staff Sgt. Monroe said he hopes this event will inspire attendees and that they will have the courage to tell their own stories of resiliency and determination.

"It takes an incredible amount of courage to stand in front of an audience and open up and tell personal stories about oneself," said Staff. Sgt. Monroe.

"Our hope is that Storytellers will help encourage others to share their experiences as well."

For those who wish to share their story the NCO Council's Professional Development Program will host a quarterly Storytellers Event, in smaller scale.
