April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month Published March 30, 2016 By Staff Sgt. Maria Bowman 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is designated to raise awareness and promote violence prevention through education. This month's theme is "Know your part, do your part." Pamela Dorsey, the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, said she and her team of victim advocates prepared activities to teach Team Scott about creating a zero-tolerance environment that stands against sexual assault or attitudes that promote it. "SAAM provides an opportunity for commands to highlight the Department of Defense and Air Force policies addressing sexual assault prevention and response," she said. A proclamation ceremony to kick off Sexual Assault Awareness month is at 11:30 a.m. April 4 at the Scott Event Center. Col. Laura Lenderman, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, will sign the proclamation. All are welcome to attend. Other events include a screening of "The Hunting Ground" documentary April 7 at 7 p.m. and April 29 at 1 p.m. at the Library Auditorium. In addition, a "Put Sexual Assault in the Gutter" bowl-a-thon will be held from 10 a.m.-noon and 12:30-2:30 p.m. April 8. A 5K run is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. April 15 starting at the parade field. Shirts will be given out at this event and also throughout the month in support of SAAM.
