To show appreciation for the sacrifices law enforcement members make to uphold the law and keep people safe, Scott Air Force Base will participate in National Police Week.

"National Police Week is celebrated throughout the nation the week of May 15," said Senior Airman Kassidy Closson, 375th Security Forces Squadron police services.

"Our Police Week celebration falls the week before National Police Week to make sure those deploying, who leave the week after, would be able to participate in our events. Police Week is a week dedicated to honor the police officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice."

The week will kick off with an equipment display at 4 p.m. May 6 at The Exchange.
Children will get a chance to fight the bite suit, which is used to train military working dogs, and jump around in a bounce house. The Exchange will also have a food truck.

A softball tournament will take place May 9 at the base softball fields with a registration time of 9:30 a.m. and a start time of 10 a.m. A $50 donation will be requested at registration. The tournament is open to the base populace and local police departments.

The base's military police will attend a St. Clair County Sheriff's Department memorial service, honoring fallen officers and Airmen, at 9 a.m. May 10.

Closson said, "All departments will have representatives who read names of their fallen officers and one by one, all officers will salute the wall with the engraved names of the fallen. It will be a truly moving experience."

A golf scramble will take place May 11 at Cardinals Creek golf course with registration at 7:30 a.m. and a start time of 8 a.m.

Registration is $50 or $200 per team with all proceeds going to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

To conclude the base's Police Week, a 5K run/walk will take place May 13, starting at the 375th SFS building. Registration is at 8 a.m. and run time is 9 a.m.

"We encourage everyone to come out, have fun, and help us honor those who gave it all," said Closson.
