AMC Chapel team hosts Lincoln on Leadership Initiative Published April 22, 2026 By Senior Airman Violette Hosack 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AI FORCE BASE, Ill. -- -- For the first time, the Air Mobility Command chapel team took members of Headquarters AMC, the 618th Air Operations Center, and 18th Air Force to Springfield, Illinois, for an immersive leadership development tour centered on the life and leadership of Abraham Lincoln. The tour, Lincoln on Leadership Initiative, included stops at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, and the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site. Each stop highlighted different aspects of leadership. “The primary goal was to seamlessly blend historical reflection with modern leadership applications, using President Lincoln as the ultimate case study in leading through crisis,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. George Lawson, AMC religious affairs readiness superintendent. “The tour was designed to remove personnel from their daily routine and place them in an environment that fosters candid dialogue. " Participants engaged in guided discussions and self-assessments, connecting Lincoln’s experiences to their own leadership challenges. Key takeaways included strengthening emotional intelligence, building diverse leadership teams, and developing resilience and strategic clarity. Lt. Col. Jeffery McMillen, AMC chaplain, said the tour was designed to use Illinois’ connection to Abraham Lincoln as a way to turn history into a practical leadership lesson, encouraging participants to apply those principles in their own roles. He emphasized that leadership is not defined by rank or background, but by the courage to do the right thing. “We’re not the first ones to face the challenges that we face,” McMillen said. “Knowing that somebody else has gone before you can give you courage.”
