Known as the “Mobility Machine,” Airmen from the 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron’s Air Transportation Function Vehicle Maintenance, and Installation Plans and Integration section worked to move mission-critical equipment across the country in late January for snow relief and presidential support missions.

They received the short-notice taskings to transport a flightline snowplow to Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, and 12 pieces of aerospace ground equipment to Des Moines, Iowa, which required an all-hands-on-deck response to ensure success in support of a presidential movement.

To help with clean up efforts from Winter Storm Fern, Scott Airmen worked eight-hour shifts alongside Joint Base Andrews’ snow team and civil engineers in 24-hour snow removal operations. Their work clearing the runways ensured safe aircraft operations and were one of five other bases tasked with providing assistance by sending one H-series snowplow and three vehicle maintenance technicians.

While clean up efforts at Joint Base Andrews were taking place, aerospace ground equipment was delivered to the Des Moines International Airport to meet presidential support requirements. Prior to departure, Vehicle maintenance Airmen inspected and certified vehicles for airlift, while air transportation specialists coordinated the loading and ensured all movement requirements were met.

“These Airmen show up around the clock in frigid weather with a smile on their face thrilled to get the mission done,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Jana Chaffin, 375th LRS director of operations. “Our Airmen step up without hesitation to ensure flawless execution every time. Logistics isn’t always in the spotlight, but it is the backbone of these operations.”
